The idea for SeKada was born after a very fun and very long Melbourne Cup lunch and grew into a dream come true for owners Lou Kenny and Mel Secondis a year later. Best friends with a passion for beautiful homewares, fashion and lovingly wrapped gifts, they started planning for a small homewares store and a few months of tossing ideas, and family schedules around, as well as lots of product sourcing and wholesale shopping (it's a tough job, but someone has to do it-lol) they opened SeKada Homewares in October 2015, in their hometown of Darwin.
Both mums, Lou has a background in nursing and would have never thought she would end up in the retail space, after a couple of years of juggling both though gave up nursing to concentrate on SeKada. Mel is a qualified florist and worked as an interior stylist before suggesting to Lou to open up a store together.
Starting with mainly homewares and gifts the shop turned into a lifestyle store over the next few years with the fashion at SeKada becoming increasingly popular with their Darwin clientele. The fashion they choose for their stores is easy wear, comfortable, uncomplicated and affordable. Lou and Mel strive to make their customers feel like part of the SeKada family and often host events and fashion shows to bring their customers together and get to know them on a personal level.
SeKada Lifestyle Co is the next venture, after enquiries from interstate customers for an online store could no longer be ignored.
